Darren Trottman

Chief Instructor, Southern Crane Kungfu and Tai Chi

Darren first began learning Tiger Crane Combination kungfu 12 years ago, after many years studying Judo, Kickboxing and Wing Chun. He also teaches Shuang Yang classes and kungfu for children.

He has been going to China to further his knowledge in kungfu since 2001, and now goes to Fujian Province in South China once or twice a year to learn from preeminent Masters in Calling White Crane and Fujian Yong Tai Tiger Boxing. Darren has additionally studied Natural Boxing, Yong Chun White Crane Fist and Shaking Crane in China.

Darren is proud to have strong links with Masters in China, Singapore and the UK. He is also a BCCMA judge for traditional southern forms.

Heather McLean

Instructor and Children’s Instructor, Southern Crane Kungfu and Tai Chi

Heather has studied Tiger Crane Combination at Southern Crane Kungfu for seven years. She has travelled to Fujian Province in Southern China every year for the past five years, totalling around 17 weeks’ solid training, with Masters in Tiger Boxing, Calling White Crane and Shaking Crane. She now studies Tiger Crane Combination, Fujian Yong Tai Tiger Boxing, and Calling White Crane.

Additionally, Heather is a qualified children’s kungfu instructor and a BCCMA judge.


Jon Evans

Instructor and Shuang Yang Instructor, Southern Crane Kungfu and Tai Chi

Jon has been training at Southern Crane Kungfu under Darren Trottman for the past 10 years. He began his interest in martial arts at a young age, and for many years studied Judo.

Jon is also a Shuang Yang instructor, and a BCCMA judge.
